According to the company, the new UL-rated EVC series connectors, that are based on HEP spring contact technology, can provide Level II charging from 75A electric supply in four hours or less. The J1772 can perform both Level I and II charging and the charging options include 75A/240V, 30A/240V, 15A/240V, and 15A/120V.
ITT said that the inlet connector, which features finger-tip protection on the power & ground pin contacts, uses the company’s VEAM CIR series backshells to provide cable management system that offers flexibility and ease-of-use on retractable design charging units.
The connectors are designed for application that include electric passenger vehicles, home charging units, public infrastructure charging units, roadside assistance trucks, electric fleet vehicles, and electric motorcycles.
Keith Teichmann, global marketing director of ITT Interconnect, said: “With the release of the SAE J1772 specification in January 2010 as the adopted standard in the US and Japan for Level I and II EV charging, robust coupler and inlet connectors capable of passing stringent testing to UL 2251 for agency approval were urgently needed to support EV production capability currently scheduled for Q4 2010.”
