Under the terms of the agreement, BYD will provide three all-electric buses eBUS-12, two DC charging stations and technical support in the first quarter of 2012.
The buses will be used as shuttles at Frankfurt’s Airport and Public transportation routes to the Gateway Gardens in Frankfurt.
The German city is planning to implement an integrated electric mobility system aligned with public transportation and the utilities companies.
BYD Sr director Henry Li said the 100% electric model eBUS can significantly reduce pollution in large cities, but also can reduce up to 70% of the operating costs.
"BYD is committed to introduce such high-tech products to supporting Frankfurt as one of the pioneer cities in Europe in public transport systems," Li said.
BYD eBUS-12 is equipped with BYD’s Iron Phosphate or "Fe" battery technologies which can allow the bus to travel up to 250 km in range per charge.
