With this order Enova will be delivering a total of 120 units of electric drive system year-to-date, for installation in Smith Newton truck in Kansas City. The company is scheduled to supply a total of 250 units to Smith by the year end.

The electric drive system supply contract is being funded through a $32m grant that Smith Electric recently received from the US Department of Energy to offset the cost of future vehicle development and to incentivize customers to participate in a vehicle demonstration program.

The Enova 120kW drive system helps recharge the battery of Smith Newton electric trucks within 6 to 8-hours from a 220V outlet.

Bryan Hansel, CEO of Smith, said: “Enova’s drive systems offer the ideal technology for our Smith Newton vehicles. Enova has engineered their drive systems to easily and non-invasively integrate with our vehicle.

“We look forward to expanding our relationship with Enova via a long term supply agreement that will allow us and our suppliers to maximize penetration and cost effectiveness through high volume orders.”
