The built facility has improved recycling facilities and easier access to skips. The main improvement is that residents no longer have to wait while skips are emptied as all HGV’s will be separated from the public using the site. The residents can recycle newspapers, magazines, plastic and glass bottles, cans, clothing as well as wood, cardboard, rubble, scrap, garden waste, batteries, oil and white goods.
Wrexham’s Mayor, Cllr David Griffiths, officially opened the site and said: It is a pleasure to be here to open this much awaited facility. I know the old site was very busy and I have no doubts that this new and modern recycling centre will be just as popular. Recycling rates are up and residents can now look forward to increasing their recycling rates by using a safer and cleaner site.
David Rees, general manager for WRG, said: “The redevelopment of Brymbo’s household waste recycling centre is a further step forward in the provision of a range of exciting new facilities that will secure for Wrexham a more sustainable future for waste and resource management.
“We’re really looking forward to working with the people of Wrexham to boost recycling rates still further by offering modern and convenient facilities at Brymbo.”
This site is the first of three to be built by WRG for Wrexham Council under the PFI contract. A new Materials Recovery Facility is being constructed on Wrexham Industrial Estate which also incorporates a composting facility. The site will start to come on line in the summer 2009 and at the end of September 2009, the Plas Madoc household recycling centre will re-open to the public following six months of refurbishment.
