As per the two-year project, ETI will identify ways in which the refurbishment and retrofitting of existing residential properties can be accelerated by industrialising the processes of design, supply and implementation.
In addition, ETI will also provide the householders with additional opportunities that come with building refurbishment to stimulate their demand.
This will be done through the development of a top to bottom process that will include identification of cost-effective package of measures suitable for a particular property, and implementation of these measures with the minimum disruption to the householder.
The project is expected to help the UK government achieve its 80% CO2 emissions reduction goal for 2050, with housing, an important contributor to the nation’s CO2 emissions.
The building retrofit project, which will be led by Building Research Establishment (BRE), in collaboration with EDF Energy, Peabody, PRP, Total Flow, UCL and Wates, complements ETI’s aim of developing technologies to help the UK meet its 2050 carbon reduction targets.
