Under the terms of the agreement, Car Charging Group will install Coulomb Technologies’ level II (240V) ChargePoint Networked charging stations for EVs to serve the customers of Icon Parking Systems, which operates more than 200 parking facilities in Manhattan.
Car Charging leverages various government tax incentives, subsidies, loan guarantees and grants to provide EV charging stations at no charge to property owners/managers by retaining ownership and realizing a percentage of the charging revenue generated.
Last month, New York, which now has 6,000 alternative fuel vehicles in its fleet of 26,000 vehicles, installed a public EV charging station as part of its attempt to develop an infrastructure for plug-in cars within the nation.
Car Charging Group CEO Michael Farkas said that this partnership lays the groundwork in Manhattan to support the national roll-out of electric automobiles on the way to dealer showrooms in late 2010 from manufacturers such as Tesla Motors, the Renault and Nissan alliance, General Motors, Ford and others.
