UK-based clean energy developer Partnerships for Renewables plans to construct 500MW wind power facilities in the country.
The facilities are proposed to be constructed over lands owned by several government bodies such as – UK Prisons, Forestry Commission and the Coal Authority.
CEO Stephen Ainger told Bloomberg that the company unveiled a 5MW farm at Standford Hill prison in Kent, southern England that marked the first of the planned wind power generating facilities.
"Our shareholders see a great future for renewables in the UK. They see, from an energy security point of view and for the U.K.’s renewables targets, it’s important and have been willing to back that government vision," added Ainger.
The company is also planning to develop a 5MW facility for Camp Hill prison on the Isle of Wight and a 15MW farm at the Haverigg prison in Cumbria.
Partnerships for Renewables secured £100m funding from Canada-based OPSEU Pension Trust and UK-based Infrared Capital Partners, each in exchange of a 33% stake in the company.
