As part of the retrofit project, Beacon Products installed its LED Retrofit Kit with Direct V Optics in all 800 of its downtown decorative post top lighting fixtures.

Prior to retrofitting the lighting, Beacon Products personnel conducted a thorough economic study comparing the costs of new fixture replacement versus the retrofitting of existing fixtures, the company said.

US-based Beacon Products replaced a 90 Watt LED retrofit kit with the metal halide and high pressure sodium light sources the city previously employed.

Funding for the lighting project provided by The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program of the Department of Energy.

The company said the program will have a positive effect on greenhouse emissions with the expectation of saving some 600,000 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

City of Carmel Department of Community Relations Melanie Letz said the LED lights provide improved directional illumination for pedestrians, motorists, and downtown business.
