PASSHydro special concerns director Knud Hedeager told The Philippine Star that the major concern with financing was to secure the trust of banks to lend to renewable energy firms.
"The market happens to be on an upslope. The finance sector is eager to put in money but not take all the risks," Hedeager said.
The association is planning to hold a two-day Philippine Hydropower Summit 2013 from 14 March 2013 wherein investors, regulators and developers will engage in a series of discussions regarding financing and permissions for hydropower projects.
According to the association’s estimates, implementation of the pending projects in the country is alone expected to add 250MW installed capacity to the national grid.
The feed-in-tariff regime of the Philippines Department of Energy has meanwhile attracted criticism from various quarters for being in favor of larger firms due to its first-come-first-serve methodology.
