The recycling facility, which provides document destruction processes, including the documents collection, mixing of documents from multiple sources prior to shredding, baling and recycling of materials, will now be called IESI Central Texas Shredding and Recycling Facility.
IESI plans to expand the 20,000sqft facility’s current document destruction processing services by incorporating a fully integrated single stream recycling process to serve the communities in the Austin area by the third quarter of 2010.
Because the facility will utilize the single-stream process, customers can combine paper, glass, metals, cardboard and plastics all in one large container and send them for recycling at the facility, which is capable of processing 150 tons of recyclable material per day.
The acquisition of the new recycling facility will enhance the sustainable efforts of IESI, which has claimed to divert more than 500,000 tons of material from landfills, including more than 300,000 tons of paper across the country in 2009.
IESI president and CEO Mickey Flood said that the company is very proud of its environmental and recycling efforts and believes that these efforts are testimonials to its leadership in the environmental industry.
