BlueOn, which has been fully developed in Korea and represents a total investment of about 40bn, has a maximum speed of 130km/h.

BlueOn features an electric motor, which is powered by a 16.4 kWh LiPoly (lithium-ion polymer) battery technology that enables the EV to travel up to 140km on a single charge.

The EV can be recharged either from a 220V household power or from a 380V industrial-strength power, which promises quick recharging speeds.

While, under the household power, the battery can be fully recharged within six hours, the quick charge method allows the battery to be recharged to about 80% of its capacity within 25 minutes.

Hyundai will work on building recharging facilities across Korea in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and other government agencies.

The company, in an attempt to help develop and test charging infrastructures, will provide 30 BlueOn vehicles for use in test fleets by various government organizations in Korea by October.

Hyundai also plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities of BlueOn next year, carrying out test productions and producing about 2,500 units by the end of 2012.

Hyundai corporate R&D center vice chairman Hyun Lee said that the company is proud to introduce the world to BlueOn, which displays Hyundai’s latest technological advancements.
