Tata Power noted that the company is planning to invest about INR2,300m ($42.6m) in the proposed solar power project which will be the company’s second solar plant in the state.
The company is aiming to generate around 26,000MW of power by 2020 and plans to have a 20-25% contribution from clean energy sources.
In addition, the company has collaborated with Sunengy, an Australian firm, to build the first floating solar plant at Mulshi, while its subsidiary Tata Power Delhi Distribution has commissioned a 1MW grid connected rooftop solar power plant in Delhi.
Currently, Tata Power has a 3MW project at Mulshi in Maharashtra and a 25MW solar photovoltaic project at Mithapur in Gujarat.
Tata Power Finance executive director S. Ramakrishnan said that the company currently has plants across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with a total installed capacity of 376MW.
The company is expected to add 200MW of wind energy to its portfolio in 2013, added Ramakrishnan.
Tata Power generates electricity from various energy sources, such as coal, gas, oil, hydroelectric, solar, wind, and geothermal energy.
