As per the agreed terms, the company will supply and install four generators and turbines with a total installed capacity of about 700MW, along with the control and associated systems at the plant.
The new hydropower plant, built next to the existing facility of Cambambe I, has access to the infrastructure and dam already available on the spot.
Commenting on the deal, Voith Hydro president and CEO Roland Münch said that the order secured by it is a key milestone for the company’s success in Africa.
"With our supply, we are contributing sustainably to the economic development of Angola," added Münch.
In addition, the company has recently completed the modernization work in the Cambambe I hydropower plant that has increased output by around 40%.
The hydropower capacity in Angola is estimated to be around 18GW, while only four percent of that has been developed so far.
Africa has outlined plans to invest in its energy sector over the next coming years. As part of this, a considerable share of the enhanced electricity generation is supposed to originate from hydropower.
