The approval allows the applicants to develop and operate the wastewater treatment plant, which is estimated to cost about $36m, near Moorefield.
The WVPSC stated the project includes landscaping and building design intended to mitigate the adverse effects on the historical resources and rural nature of the land.
With a design capacity to treat 4.10 million gallons of wastewater per day, the plant will provide wastewater treatment services for the Town of Moorefield, Pilgrim’s Pride Corp and to unincorporated areas of Hardy County.
The plant will replace four inadequate facilities and will meet the enhanced and more stringent nutrient removal requirements of the Chesapeake Bay Compact, WVPSC said.
The majority of the funding will come from grant funds and an average residential sewer customer using 4,000 gallons of water per month will experience a project-related rate increase of only ten cents per month.
