Of the total funding, £16m will be provided to 30 projects, under the first phase of DECC’s £35m Energy Entrepreneurs Fund. This funding will support energy efficiency technologies such as building control systems, advanced lighting systems and space heating and cooling technologies.
About £2m will be provided to 16 organizations for Energy Storage competitions, while the remaining £3m will be provided for Advanced Heat Storage.
Commenting on the initiative, Energy and Climate Change minister Greg Barker said the investment will allow the organizations to boost the development of a range of low carbon designs, by helping cut costs and bringing new technologies to market in this sector.
"Innovation is vital for the move towards a low carbon economy and it’s great to see so many entrepreneurs rising to the challenge," added Barker.
Designed to boost the development of low carbon technologies, the Energy Entrepreneurs Fund, Energy Storage competitions and Advanced Heat Storage scheme will create new jobs and export opportunities as well as help the UK meet its carbon targets.
