The funding will support the development of high-efficiency, cost-effective battery technologies for electric vehicles.
Under the initiative, the consortium will fund and manage research and development projects cooperated by battery and component manufacturers, universities, and the national laboratories, to improve advanced energy storage technologies for hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and all-electric vehicles.
The initiative will support the DOE’s EV Everywhere Challenge that is aimed at making electric vehicles affordable and accessible for the consumers in the country.
The US Advanced Battery Consortium is managed by Chrysler Group, Ford Motor and General Motors.
