The proposed wastewater treatment will pretreat water from lagoons around the Johnston landfill and will be sent to Providence through a new sewer connection.
This plant will have a capacity to treat around 650,000 gallons of wastewater from the landfill per day.
According to Resource Recovery officials, the wastewater treatment plant is expected to be completed by December 2014.
Meanwhile, Cranston in Rhode Island has already imposed fines worth $190,000 on Resource Recovery for toxic wastewater discharges into the city’s treatment system.
