UK-based vento ludens has secured a planning consent for its 15MW solar energy park at Glebe Farm, near Bedford, which will increase the renewable energy generation capacity by around 25% in the country.

The proposed solar power project will be built on around 27 hectares of land and is anticipated to be one of the biggest solar projects in the region, by reducing CO2 emissions.

The Glebe Farm project is being developed in collaboration with Dulas – a renewable energy project management firm.

Construction of the project will begin in October 2013 and is expected to become operational in April 2014.

Commenting on the project, vento ludens managing director Jay Butler said large-scale solar projects can become significant power sources for the company’s further development.

Dulas chief executive officer Sanjay Bowry said, "We are excited to be working with vento ludens Ltd on this scheme which will make a significant contribution to the provision of clean, green renewable energy in the UK.

"This scheme will also contribute greatly to the impending UK energy gap due to the planned decommissioning of up to 22 GW of conventional power generation over the next five years."

The UK Government is aiming to power around 4 million homes by solar power and is planning to have 20GW of installed solar power capacity by 2020.
