The new auto assembly factory, which Tesla purchased in May, will combine advanced automotive and Silicon Valley talent for the mass production of Model S sedan designed from the ground up to take full advantage of electric vehicle architecture.

Model S featuring an optional extended-range battery pack can travel 300 miles per charge and is claimed to meet high standards for vehicle efficiency, safety, and provide more cargo space than any other sedan.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that this is a momentous day in Tesla history, turning the company’sour advanced EV technology into a mass manufacturing reality.

“Model S is blazing a new trail for the industry and it will all happen right here — the Tesla Factory gives us plenty of room to grow,” Musk said.
