As part of the initiative, local authorities in England can bid for funding from a £20m pot for the energy efficiency installations in households on a street-by-street or area basis, stated DECC.

Commenting on the initiative, UK Energy and Climate Minister of State Greg Barker said the government will deliver the Green Deal at real scale for streets and properties that can benefit from the initiative to improve their energy efficiency.

"The Coalition is committed to helping hard pressed consumers and this £20 million funding will help more families benefit from the Green Deal, making homes warmer and more efficient, and protecting consumers against rising energy bills," added Barker.

In addition to the £200m energy efficiency scheme, DECC has already provided around £23m in funding for major cities and local authorities to kick-start the Green Deal.
