The Soreq Desalination Plant will use 16-inch DOW Filmtec reverse osmosis (RO) membranes to produce up to 150 billion liters (39.6 billion gallons) of drinking water annually.
The 16-inch RO technology has been developed with a surface area 4.3 times that of the elements typically used in full-scale RO systems for water reuse, increasing the membrane size options for system designers and decreasing the number of permeate o-ring seals needed by seven-fold.
Dow Water & Process Solutions marketing manager of desalination Ian Lomax said that Soreq desalination project is a milestone in terms of size and technology and a testament to how Dow’s advances in RO membranes have contributed to producing clean drinking water from seawater.
“Our commitment to providing clean water in the Middle East includes innovations that decrease the number of membrane elements needed, reduce the system’s footprint and equipment needs and provide capital cost savings for plant operators,” Lomax said.
