The wind power project concessions, which have been awarded to SAE Vind, Sarepta Energi and Zephyr, are expected to add approximately 1.3GW of wind power that would be enough to cater to the electricity needs of around 185,000 households annually.
In addition, the government has issued a separate license for a 420KV transmission line that will allow the 75MW Hitra 2, a fifth SAE project to progress towards construction.
Commenting on the agreements, Norway Petroleum and Energy Minister Ola Borten Moe said that the new capacity will represent a significant part of Norway’s renewables commitment.
According to the date presented by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, the country’s wind power capacity during the year 2012 was around 704MW, reports the BloombergBusinessweek.
The country is committed to have approximately 67.5% of its energy consumption from renewable sources by the end of this decade.
