The project powered by 19 MM82 turbines, each with a 2.05MW capacity from turbine manufacturer REpower, which is expected to generate enough electricity to power 19,000 homes each year.
The project, which was given government approval in July 2006, will contribute to the Scottish government’s renewable energy targets of 80% of electricity to be generated from renewable sources by 2020.
EDF Energy Renewables has agreed with the Scottish Foundation and Stow and Fountainhall Community Council to establish a Community Fund connected to the wind farm to provide GBP45,000 each year of operation for local sustainable projects.
EDF Energy Renewables CEO Christian Egal said that opening this wind is good news for EDF Energy Renewables and also for Scotland as the energy generated here will power up to 19,000 homes and reduce CO2 emissions by around 43,000 tonnes .
