Under the contract, Aker Solutions will be responsible for maintenance, storage, supply of parts and technical assistance for all Aker-built subsea equipment to Petrobras.

Aker Solutions CEO Luis Araujo said: "Brazil is a key global offshore market.

"We have a nearly four-decade presence in the country and are committed to finding solutions to help Petrobras develop its petroleum resources in the most efficient and sustainable manner possible."

The three-year contract has option for extension by another three years.

Work under the contract will be managed by Aker Solutions at the base in Rio das Ostras in Rio de Janeiro.

Aker Solutions Brazil head Maria Peralta said: "We are pleased to be able to continue providing top-notch services and technologies to support Petrobras’ production and growth plans in the pre-salt deepwater fields."

Aker said that a new subsea manufacturing center in Curitiba is also being launched in April 2016. The firm is also upgrading its subsea services unit in Rio das Ostras in a bid to better meet customer demand.

Separately, Aker is redeveloping its Kirkhill Avenue manufacturing site in Dyce, Aberdeen to strengthen its capabilities in the UK.

As part of the redevelopment plan, the site will include a multi-product services area and electronics labs to expand the company’s subsea services offering in the UK.

Other developments at the site include new office accommodation with improved welfare facilities for employees.
