The Solar Gen 2 project will feature First Solar PV modules fitted on a tracking system and the output generated by the project will be bought by San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
First Solar construction director Anthony Perrino said the company is very excited to begin construction on a third project in the Imperial Valley.
"With the support of county officials, Imperial Irrigation District and SDG&E, we are helping to deliver thousands of green jobs, millions of dollars in economic benefits, and clean, renewable energy for Southern California homes," Perrino added.
During the construction period, the project will create around 800 jobs while generating around $150,000 in property taxes per year.
The project is scheduled to be completed by July 2014.
Besides the company is also developing two other PV projects in the Imperial Valley. Construction on the 139MW Campo Verde PV project in El Centro is expected to be completed by the end of October 2013.
The company is also nearing completion of the 130MW Tenaska Imperial Solar Energy Center South project in Calexico.
