The cloud connected unit supports both SAE Combo and CHAdeMO standards for battery electric vehicles.

It is suitable for highway and city centers, fueling stations, fleets, and other infrastructure providers with 15 to 30 minute of charging time.

ABB director Cal Lankton said that meeting both CHAdeMO and SAE Combo standards in a single fast charger provides one simple solution to meet the needs of existing and future EV drivers.

"The Terra 53 concept is exciting, because driver confidence in charger availability is very influential for EV adoption rates," Lankton added.

The Terra 53, which features functional design, advanced technology, is compatible with many charging networks and payment & billing platforms through open standards based interfaces, such as the widely adopted Open Charge Point Protocol.

Smart connectivity of the charging station will enable remote monitoring, pro-active maintenance and functional upgrades providing customers with the tools necessary to gather customer specific usage statistics and reports.

The Terra 53 is expected to be available from November 2013, while the dual outlet, multi-standard version will be available from early 2014.
