The project request was proposed by Montana-Dakota Utilities in earlier 2013 for electric capacity and energy supply. Under the 25-year agreement, the wind farm will provide energy to Montana-Dakota Utilities’ substation near Hettinger.
Montana-Dakota Utilities president and CEO K. Frank Morehouse said that this is a competitively priced agreement that will serve Montana-Dakota Utilities’ customers for many years to come.
"Moving some of our current market energy purchases into a fixed contract helps protect our customers from unexpected changes in market pricing," Morehouse added.
The wind farm is expected to enter commercial operation by the fourth quarter of 2015.
Besides, the agreement follows 20% of Montana-Dakota Utilities’ energy supply from renewable resources.
