With construction scheduled to begin in April 2014, the 5.7MW facility is intended to be the largest investor-owned solar energy center in the state. The final design and approval will be during late spring.
The facility will be located MO. Construction is scheduled to begin in April following final design and permitting in late spring. The project is expected to deliver power to Ameren Missouri customers by December 2014.
Ameren Missouri president and CEO Warner Baxter said that the company is building the largest investor-owned solar energy center in Missouri history because Ameren Missouri is committed to powering the quality of life for our customers with cleaner energy derived from a diverse mix of energy sources, including renewables.
"We are committed to renewable energy as one solution to meeting our customers’ long-term energy needs," Baxter added.
The O’Fallon Renewable Energy Center will be built on about 19 acres of area, adjacent to Ameren Missouri’s Belleau substation in St. Charles County and it will comprise more than 19,000 solar panels.
Following its commissioning expected in December 2014, the energy center will cater to energy requirements of 650 average-size homes in the St. Louis area.
In addition, the project will generate 50 to 70 construction jobs.
