
The foundations were installed by using HGO Infrasea Solutions’ heavy-lift jack-up vessel Innovation.
The Innovation, which is 50:50 owned by GeoSea and Hochtief, was loaded in Aalborg, Denmark, before transporting to the North Sea project site, which is located 9km from the coast near Hull in the north east of England.
The project features 35 Siemens 6MW wind turbine units with foundations consisting of monopiles between 500 tonnes and 810 tonnes with a diameter of 6.5m and transition pieces of about 367 tonnes.
GeoSea said it took steps to involve local content in the project by bringing in and facilitating the involvement of UK east coast firms.
The company opened a UK project office in Grimsby port to carry out the secondary works on the foundations.
The project, which is planned to be commissioned in the first half of 2015, is expected to provide CO2-free electricity for about 200,000 homes in the region.
Prior to Westermost Rough project, GeoSea has participated in the construction of several large-scale offshore developments which include the Alpha Ventus project, the EnBW Baltic 2 wind farm, the Trianel West Borkum II wind farm in German waters.
