The company has reached an agreement with environmental groups and state regulatory staff to expand its programs to all Missouri customers.
The agreement is subject to the Missouri Public Service Commission approval.
Earlier in 2014, KCP&L filed for the programs under the Missouri Energy Efficiency Investment Act (MEEIA).
The act enables all companies in the state to offer energy-efficiency programs to customers.
KCP&L president and CEO Terry Bassham said the energy-efficiency programs have helped the company’s Greater Missouri Operations customers save millions of kilowatt hours of electricity.
"We hope to offer more of our customers the chance to save money in their homes and businesses with these programs," Bassham added.
KCP&L’s proposed expansion of the energy-saving programs offers customers a solution that is claimed to reduce the electricity cost and help the environment.
The energy-efficiency investments will delay the construction of additional power plants that may be required to meet the increasing customer demand.
Bassham said the additional investment in energy efficiency would further compliment KCP&L’s commitment to provide customers with cleaner, more affordable electricity.
"These programs would help us ensure we are able to supply our region with reliable electricity for decades to come," Bassham concluded.
