As per the contract, First Solar will supply the PV modules for two solar projects of Edify Energy, which include Daydream with a capacity of 180.7MW and Hayman with 60.2MW. The solar farms will be constructed in the Australian state of Queensland.
RCR Tomlinson is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the two farms.
With the contract, First Solar’s pipeline of solar projects in Australia is expected to reach over 500MW in the coming 12 months.
First Solar stated that it will be supplying more than 2 million PV modules for the two solar farms, which will utilise an optimised technology solution of single-axis tracking technology provided by Array Technologies.
Cumulatively, the solar farms are expected to generate about 531,000MWh of green energy every year. When fully operational, the two solar farms will produce enough clean energy to be supplied to about 73,000 Australian homes, while reducing about 429,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year.
First solar claims that its Series 4 modules, which will be supplied for the project are ideally suited for the hot and humid environmental conditions in the Whitsunday region of Queensland.
Edify Energy CEO John Cole said: “First Solar’s unique energy yield advantage enables our solar projects in North Queensland to produce more energy per MW installed than other available PV technology.
“This is of significant importance for asset owners and operators looking to maximize energy production. The First Solar team has been very supportive and a key enabler of these projects.”
The two solar farms are scheduled for construction in the third quarter of this year and the module delivery will take place in the last quarter and the first quarter of next year.
