Under the agreement, General Motors will buy clean energy generated by Starwood’s 100MW Northwest Ohio Wind project in Van Wert and Paulding counties to meet the electricity needs of its manufacturing facilities in Ohio.

The project is expected to be completed in 2018.

According to the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA), the Northwest Ohio Wind project will supply electricity to more than 30,000 homes, preventing CO2 emissions of over 34,000 homes, which is equivalent to the CO2 emissions of 48,000 passenger vehicles.

Based in Greenwich, Connecticut, Starwood Energy Group specializes in energy infrastructure investments. The company invests through its general opportunity funds, Starwood Energy Infrastructure Fund I and II, and affiliated investment vehicles.

The group manages equity commitments of more than $3bn and has executed transactions worth $6bn.

The group has vast experience in development, construction, operations, acquisition and financing, with focus on sectors such as natural gas and renewable power generation, and transmission.
