Starting this week, the company will inspect, sandblast and repaint the 250,000-gallon tank, which was built in 2000. Crews will strip the original paint and apply a new coating to extend the lifespan of the ground storage structure located off Reservoir Road.
“Storage tanks are a critical part of our water infrastructure that ensure adequate, reliable water supplies for our communities, in addition to providing fire protection,” said Pennsylvania American Water Project Manager Bruce Brubaker. “Rehabilitation projects like this one extend the tanks’ lifespan, while also providing significant cost savings compared to replacing the structures.”
During construction, Brubaker said the company will maintain normal operations and no water service disruptions are expected for customers. The company’s local system includes eight storage tanks and provides water service to nearly 9,300 customers in Exeter and Amity Townships.
This project is among the 10 storage tanks that the company is rehabbing this year across the Commonwealth, in addition to erecting four new tanks for a total capital investment of nearly $8.5 million. Pennsylvania American Water owns and maintains more than 290 storage tanks statewide.
