With this wastewater treatment plant, the company can reuse around 350 cubic meters of wastewater at the wind farm’s construction site and reduce the overall water consumption at the site.
Apart from this, by using the wastewater treatment plant, the company can also avoid at least 1.6 tonnes of CO2 during the wind farm’s construction.
This new mobile wastewater facility works by running the wastewater through a series of ceramic membranes with BioGill-patented nanotechnology, where bacteria is allowed to purify water naturally.
Enel also claims that the wastewater treatment facility is CO2-free and it is powered by a small 4kW wind generator and a 2KV battery system. When the Wayra 1 wind farm’s construction is completed, the mobile treatment facility can be moved to another construction site.
Wayra I is the first wind farm built by Enel in Peru as well as the largest wind project currently under construction in the country with 132 MW of capacity. The project is expected to generate around 600 GWh of emission-free electricity per year. The total investment in Wayra I amounts to approximately $165m.
