In the area of rail transport, Alstom is negotiating with the Kazakh railway maintenance company, Kamkor, for the modernization of 145 VL-80 electric locomotives. The project involves Alstom supplying new transformers and asynchronous motors for these locomotives. The partners are also studying the assembly of electric locomotives under license in Kazakhstan.
A second project under consideration is for Alstom to supply four Pendolino high speed tilting trainsets, along with their maintenance. These tilting trains will traverse the 1,200km line between Kazakhstan’s capital city, Astana, and Almaty, the country’s largest urban centers.
In power generation, the two partners have committed to the modernization of power plants, integration of clean power technologies into coal-fired generation facilities and the development gas-based and renewable energies.
Within the scope of the MoU, Alstom is preparing to participate in the invitation to tender for a new phase of the 2x660MW Balkash coal power plant in Kazakhstan.
