The members of Japan CCS include 11 power companies, five petroleum companies, four engineering firms, two petroleum resource development companies, two iron and steel manufacturers and one chemical company, all with expertise in specialized areas of carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Japan CCS’s mission is to support the Japanese government, which has called for major reductions in CO2. It said that it aims to reduce Japan’s current CO2 emissions by 60% to 80% in 2008.
Don McConnell, president of Battelle’s Energy Technology Global Business, said: The creation of this new company is an important step in the creation of a CCS industry, not only in Japan, but the world.
