The new Joint System Security Center’s task will be to support the supra-regional security management of the two companies’ high voltage grids in Germany and the Netherlands. Preparations for the new center began recently in Rommerskirchen, Germany, where a team of experts will initially be based.
The center will provide supra-regional security calculations, grid congestion forecasts and analyses to support TenneT’s and RWE’s control centers.
It is reported that the creation of this regional center is in line with the need for increased operational co-operation between transmission system operators in Europe. With a view to the increased integration of the European electricity market, the Joint System Security Center is also open to other transmission system operators, said RWE.
Klaus Kleinekorte, managing director of RWE Transportnetz Strom, and Mel Kroon, CEO of TenneT TSO, said: This intensified international co-operation takes us on a new path in European transmission system operation. Not only the 43 million inhabitants in the supply region will benefit from the improved security of supply but so will the entire European extra-high voltage grid.
