During the first phase, the government plans to implement a pre-paid metering system in the urban areas. This would also include approximately 83 new 33 kilowatt (kV) substations, increasing the capacity of 35 existing substations and erecting associated lines of 33 kV level.

Under the metering project, both the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam intend to invest approximately INR1 billion.

A investment plan of INR1.47billion has been approved by the Centre under Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme-II to enhance power distribution system in 36 towns of Haryana.
