On June 11, 2009, the Ministry of Environmental Protection stopped the assessments on the construction applications. After a halt in the assessment process, work on the coal-fired Yimin power facility and the Long Kaikou hydropower project were suspended.
Work on the coal plant started with an environmental approval but was halted because the plant did not meet subsequent inspections.
The company has formed a work group to look for the alternatives to rectify the situation and investigate the projects. It has also asked the plants’ designers to reassess the environmental impact.
