Gansu will have built a ‘Three Gorges on the land’ by then, Feng Jianshen, vice governor of Gansu province said, referring to the country’s $23-billion dam that spans the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.
The dam currently has 26 generators with a capacity of 18.2 GW, which will rise to 22.4 gigawatts when six more generators are added.
The government is aiming to depend more on clean power, with a focus on the wind power development, which lead to economic growth.
In 2008, Zhang Guobao, head of China’s National Energy Administration, jas reported that the government will construct several Three Gorges of wind power by 2020 in provinces and regions including Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Gansu and Jiangsu.
