The power station with the capacity to power 575,000 homes is due to be operational by May 2011. The power station would provide an economic boost to the rural community of Coolidge. The simple-cycle natural gas-fired peaking plant would provide a quick response to peak power demand.
The facility is also expected to provide reserve capacity and the ability to generate power quickly to support power reliability in the region. SRP, Arizona-based utility company, has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement to purchase 100% of the output from TransCanada’s Coolidge Generating Station.
Through the construction of the power plant hundreds of jobs would be created during the construction phase of the project and approximately 12 permanent full time jobs would be available when completed.
