According to the government’s report – Low Carbon Transition Plan – which was launched in July, the country is expected to experience power cuts similar to an hour-long power cut for 16m people over a year.
By 2025, the shortfall could double to 7000MWh per year – equivalent to an hour-long power cut for half of Britain over a year.
The power shortage is expected to be caused by the closure of nine oil and coal fired power plants by 2015 and four existing nuclear power plants will also be shut.
