ANH Director, Armando Zamora said three areas will be on offer in the 2010 Open Round and that authorities hope the total investment commitment secured to be much more modest than last year’s total of roughly $1 billion.
The areas to be offered under the 2010 open round comprise of 74 blocks that are part of the Mini Round, which are mature areas. These are less risky as there is more information so firms can go straight to it, but with smaller prospects.
Another 31 blocks on offer correspond to new prospects, which have new information and interesting potential.
The other 73 blocks are “technical evaluation (areas), which … have less information and more risk, but greater potential. Investment in these is greater,” Zamora said.
Colombia expects that between 20 and 30 blocks can be assigned with investment commitments of between $50 million and $100 million.
He said it is expected to recover in the second part of 2009. “We hope (total energy) investment in 2009 will be equal to last year’s $3.5 billion. That would be a success in a year of crisis,” he added.
