Google has also entered into two UK partnerships for its new software. The company has teamed up with First Utility, which is said to be the only energy supplier in the UK to provide free smart meters to its customers. The company is currently in the process of rolling them out across the country.
Reportedly, First Utility has over 30,000 customers signed up to its service. Starting in early November, all First Utility customers with smart meters will be able to sign up to use Google PowerMeter.
Mark Daeche, chief executive of First Utility, said: “At the end of the day, if you can’t measure and view your energy use, it’s very difficult to make savings.”
Google has also partnered with AlertMe, a self-install consumer device manufacturer. AlertMe customers in the UK can access their home’s data through Google PowerMeter on their iGoogle homepage.
