Currently, the company is using the wire network of power utility BEST and Reliance Infrastructure to distribute electricity to its 800,000 customers in the city and the suburbs, respectively, by paying the wheeling charges.
Tata Power executive director Sankaranarayanan Padmanabhan said the company has submitted a plan to state electricity regulator Maharashtra electricity regulatory commission to lay its own network.
The company also has its own network in few parts of the city.
In 2008, Tata Power received permission from the Supreme Court of India to supply electricity to retail consumers having a requirement of 1,000 KV or less in Mumbai, reports PTI.
