The stress tests are conducted amid the worries triggered by the nuclear disaster that occurred at the Fukushima Diachi nuclear plant in Japan.

Besson would make the official request during a summit on 19 September 2011 to be held in Vienna, reports DowJones.

Nuclear stress tests were launched by the European Union to test the safety of operating nuclear reactors in the region.
The tests are expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2012.

The French energy minister said France will keep using nuclear energy as a source of electricity and that the process of auditing the 58 French nuclear reactors currently running is half done.

An independent authority will release a report by the end of the year.

France also plans to go ahead with the construction of nuclear plant located in Flamanville by Electricite de France and Areva despite a two-year delay and a cost increase.
