Under the terms of the contract, Areva will supply fuel to the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant located in Minnesota, US.
Monticello plant is a General Electric BWR-3 design with a current output of 613 MW.
The contract covers uranium, conversion, fuel design, fabrication and related engineering services.
Under the agreement Areva will provide six fuel reloads which corresponds to a decade of fuel supply, with deliveries beginning in 2015.
The plant will use Areva’s Atrium 10XM boiling water reactor fuel for the first time, reports neimagazine.com.
In addition, Xcel energy also operates Prairie Island 1&2, a two 548 MW pressurized water reactor located near Red Wing, Minnesota.
