The Atyrau refinery, which is owned by KazMunayGas, is processing 100,000bbl of crude oil per day.
In the third phase of the project, new processing equipment, including fluid catalytic cracker units, will be installed for reinforcing the production of oil products to suit European environmental standards.
According to the company, the total project cost is about $1.7bn and the project is part of the National Development Strategy of Kazakhstan.
