Adjacent to the new Cordele Inland Port, the new facility will be utilized by Vega Biofuels along with engineering firm Hunt, Guillot & Associates on the design, construction, project management, and equipment installation for the new bio-coal plant.
Vega Biofuels chairman/CEO Michael Molen said, "Being next to the new Inland Port will save the Company thousands of dollars annually in transportation costs."
Upon completion, the plant will produce green energy bio-coal from timber waste for existing coal-fired power plants across the world.
Bio-coal is made from a torrefaction process, which is a partial carbonization method that takes place at temperatures between 475 degrees and 575 degrees in a low temperature environment to make the physical and energetic properties of the biomass comparable to traditional coal.
The biomass is then compressed into briquettes and sold to the end users such as, electricity generation companies.
