The well was drilled about 290km northeast of Hammerfest and about 50km east of the 7226/2-1 discovery.

Drilled by the Transocean Barents, the well targeted petroleum primarily in Jurassic and Triassic reservoir rocks.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth on 1,672m below sea level and a sea depth of 352m.

The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned, said Noreco.

Transocean Barents will head to the North Sea to drill production wells on the Jette field for Det norske oljeselskap.

Det norske oljeselskap is the operator for the wildcat well.
